Abstract


Dental caries is one of the main factors to cause the teeth to be lost. Diet is the important factor in the development of dental caries. Today, Dental plaque control, Fluoride topical application, Fissure sealing and Diet control are used to prevent dental caries. The creative importance of diet in the methods to prevent dental caries is 20% in infants.
By the five day diet diary, the author surveyed the food intake of 320 infants aged from 2 to 5 in Seoul. The purpose of this study, is to obtain the basic data for diet control to prevent dental caries in Korea. After collecting data, the cariogenic food intake analysis, the detergent food intake analysis, and the basic food intake analysis were taken by turns
After discussing the results, the author concluded as follows:
1. The average food intake frequency per day was 6.27 times, of which 2.85 times taken at
meals and 3.42 times at between meals. Males and females intaked almost same frequency.
2. The average cariogenic food intake frequency per day was 3.62 times. Solid cariogenic
food was taken 0.65 times at meals, and 1.49 times at between meals. Liquid cariogenic
There is little differences between males and females.
3. The percentages of intake without detergent food of each intake time per day was 36.8% at meals, and 42.1% at between meals. The percentage was high at between meals before and after lunch.
4. The average excess or deficiency intake numbers of standard quantity of model food was 0.05 for the meat group, 1.51 for the milk group, -0.32 for the fruits and vegerables group, -0.21 for the breads. and cereals group, -2.93 for the fat group.
